Kendall County proclaims June elder-abuse awareness month and June 12 women veterans recognition day

The Kendall County Commissioners Court on June 9 unanimously approved proclamations recognizing June 2026 as Elder Abuse Awareness Month and June 12, 2026 as Women’s Veterans Recognition Day.
Tricia Martin, the local Adult Protective Services investigator for Kendall County, told the court that APS received 145 cases of concern for elder and disabled individuals in 2025 and that 101 of those cases received services. “Every person deserves to age with dignity, safety, independence, and respect,” Martin said while asking residents to report suspected abuse so APS can investigate and provide help. The court moved and passed the elder-abuse proclamation 5–0.
In a separate presentation, Laurie Rogers, a retired Navy senior chief, described veterans’ networking and support activities in the county and thanked the court for recognizing women veterans. “We have been welcomed by Kendall County and we want to build community for veterans,” Rogers said. The court passed the women-veterans proclamation 5–0.
Both proclamations were framed as public-awareness actions and do not create new county programs; staff noted they will be signed and kept on file. The court encouraged residents to work with APS and local partners to report and prevent elder abuse and to attend local veteran recognition events.
