Council heard a recognition for bailiff Scott Trammell for his handling of a July 16 incident in which he and the town’s co‑response care team persuaded a person experiencing homelessness to accept medical care.
Town police staff described how the individual had asked to be arrested and was reluctant to accept treatment; Officer Trammell "showed empathy and compassion" and contacted the Southeast Care Alliance team, which arranged medical evaluation and transport. Chief Vegas told council the intervention likely saved the person’s life after the individual experienced a massive coronary episode at the hospital. Melissa Carr of the Southeast Care Alliance confirmed the patient is in cardiac rehab and will have a safe discharge plan. The Sunnyvale Police Department presented Trammell with a certificate of merit for meritorious conduct.
