Councilors directed staff to advertise openings for boards whose terms are expiring and to return nominations for appointment at the July 21 council meeting.
Danielle (speaker 11) said the application process is currently two pages and could be streamlined; she advised the council that the planning commission meets the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m., and that the charter permits appointing up to seven members plus ex officio representatives. Council discussed the need for at least a quorum (four members) for the planning commission to function while major work — including a comprehensive plan update and a Unified Development Code revision — is underway.
Council members instructed staff to accept applications online and via social media and to run background checks after nominations are identified. Councilors also agreed that for committees not currently at term-exiry, existing members should remain until their terms end; applications will be sought only for positions with terms up this year.
