County hears update on juvenile detention center expansion and regional monitoring services

A project presenter identified as Josh updated the Jefferson County commissioners on progress toward opening an expanded juvenile detention center and on plans to expand regional services for juvenile justice.
"Contractor engagement has increased significantly," Josh said, noting multiple vendors across construction, HVAC, electrical and security have completed site walkthroughs and submitted proposals. He told the board the security and camera controls phase is the longest, with an estimated nine-month timeline from signing to completion.
Josh said his company signed a three-year agreement to provide electronic home-detention monitoring as an alternative to detention and described plans for transportation services to help courts and probation. He said the county could provide out-of-county placement as surrounding counties use the center and that those placements could generate revenue to support operations.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about contractor selection and timelines. Josh offered to provide follow-up materials and said a project sign will be installed next week; no formal vote was taken at the meeting.
