Tommy Saanich, Parks and Facilities Director, reviewed a proposed interlocal agreement (ILA) that would allow the town to use the newly constructed middle‑school turf field when the district has not scheduled it. Saanich told council the ILA was developed collaboratively with SISD legal counsel and the district approved the agreement on 04/27/2026.
"The town's share of the maintenance we're anticipating is approximately $3,300 per year," Saanich said, adding the agreement sets a recommended initial manufacturer maintenance cost split at 60/40 and requires the town and ISD to reconvene after the first year to evaluate actual usage and adjust cost‑sharing quarterly if needed. Saanich said scheduling and day‑to‑day oversight of the field would remain the district's responsibility; the town could use the field during unscheduled times. Council members asked about priority for residents versus non‑residents and liability during public use; Saanich said the district would prioritize school events and residents, and that liability would follow whether use is during school events (district liability) or public use (town liability), with reporting requirements in the ILA for fees collected.
Council did not take final signature action at this meeting beyond approving budget adjustments for FY27 maintenance; staff will finalize administrative details and return if significant changes to terms are requested.
