Council asks staff to research parking controls at Jobson Park while residents press for faster park buildout

Parks Facilities Director Thomas Saanich told the council that residents reported traffic congestion, safety concerns for children crossing between parked cars on Tabner (Tabner/Tabner Lane) and incidents of park users entering private yards. He asked the council whether staff should research potential solutions—signage, an enforceable ordinance, permitted-resident parking, or built-in parking as part of the park design.

"At this point, we're kind of getting a gauge of a compass on what you'd like to see related to this topic today," Saanich said, asking for direction. Council members were split between waiting for the final park design (to avoid designing fixes that later conflict with budget and design) and asking staff to research options now so they can inform the project’s final plans. Council Member Allen urged staff to explore options ahead of final design so the council can weigh tradeoffs when the budget is set.

Public commenters during the meeting echoed the urgency. Nick Talbot (334 Yosemite Falls) said the design contract was approved in March 2025 but citizens have not seen a finalized design. "We're over a year from that," Talbot said, urging council to "get this thing going." Trevor Lunt (281 Ashwood Lane) also urged progress and said the park is inadequate for current youth activities until completed.

Council instructed staff to research enforceable signage and ordinance routes and to coordinate that research with the park design process; staff will return with options and feasibility and present them alongside design updates.
