Commissioners review capital repairs: chiller, sally port doors, paving and exterior work

Facilities director Barry Compton walked the court through a slate of capital repairs and maintenance agreements during the June 18 budget workshop. Items included lifting and sealing exterior walkways at the new courthouse (budget estimate ~$21,000), a large exterior power‑wash and window cleaning ($60,000 estimate), repair or replacement of sally port door springs at the jail (repeatedly costly at roughly $14,000 to replace springs), and asphalt and electrical work for a secure storage triangle behind the sheriff's office (asphalt ~$60,000; concrete work ~$12,000).

Compton also described a failing chiller at the historic courthouse whose controller has failed and which may require either a rebuilt controller or full replacement; he said the chiller dates to a 2000–2002 renovation and replacement options are being priced. The court asked for further pricing detail and coordination with the ongoing sheriff's remodel so certain site repairs could be bundled into larger projects. No capital authorizations were approved at the workshop; staff will produce cost estimates and possible timelines for inclusion in the budget draft.
