Court moves to evaluate switching annex access-control off ACI after repeated failures

Facilities director Barry Compton told commissioners that the access‑control system installed at the annex is currently tied into the jail and new courthouse through ACI, a vendor based in Wisconsin, and that updates or changes in one building sometimes cause doors or schedules to fail in another. "When they update one building, it updates them all," Compton said, describing episodes where doors opened when they should not or closed unexpectedly.
The facilities committee proposed moving lower‑security buildings (library, annex, adult probation) to a local vendor while keeping the jail and the new courthouse on ACI because detention centers have different, more complex needs. Commissioners asked staff to review the ACI contract, check warranty and acceptance language, and consider asking the county attorney or DA's office to pursue remedies if the system does not meet performance requirements. Road & Bridge camera and network expansion requests were also discussed as part of standardizing systems across facilities.
