Designers presented an updated waterfront master plan that would add a heritage walk, floating ACL dock components, retail space with possible housing above and expanded public green space. The concept aims to disperse cruise passengers into downtown rather than concentrate them at a single fixed dock, while still preserving working waterfront functions.
American Cruise Lines said their ships (about 100–170 passengers) already call on Wrangell and that the proposed floating-dock additions would improve safety and passenger circulation. “We’re very excited to be part of that future with you,” an ACL representative said. The plan’s authors emphasized phasing: fill the waterfront footprint this summer, pursue dock work and seek private developers for retail/residential spaces; city staff announced an auction of marginal commercial maritime space March 6 as a trial step. Speakers also discussed caps and daily passenger limits as tools to preserve community character while allowing measured tourism growth.
