The Cambria Community Services District board discussed a staff‑draft climate action/adaptation outline on Jan. 8 and asked staff to return with cost estimates and a possible consultant RFP scope rather than commissioning an encyclopedic plan.
Director Thomas, who co‑chairs the climate ad hoc, urged a concise, actionable plan that links measurable goals to the district’s operations. "The climate action plan should include measurable goals," he said, arguing the district needs a short, implementation‑focused document rather than a voluminous technical compendium. Several directors agreed an adaptation component is critical to access infrastructure grants aimed at protecting water and sewer assets from sea‑level rise and wildfire risks.
Director Gray recommended staff define specific adaptation vulnerabilities (for example, well‑field and lift‑station exposure to sea‑level rise) and bring back an RFP scope to identify consultant costs. General Manager McElhaney said staff can work with the ad hoc to prepare an RFP and also attempt to gather preliminary cost estimates before going to bid. The board directed staff to refine the draft plan, return cost estimates and, if warranted by budget and scope, issue an RFP that can be evaluated by the board.
