Mayor spotlights local Firewise groups as town continues debate over firehouse future

Mayor McMillan opened the meeting by calling attention to local Firewise USA efforts and urging residents to take steps to reduce wildfire risk. "Some California insurance companies offer homeowner insurance discounts if a residence is in a Firewise site," she said, and noted that Marin now has about 90 Firewise groups covering more than a quarter of the county.
The mayor named several local sites—Barber Winship (approved six years ago), the newly certified Laurel Grove Firewise community, and a nascent Lagunitas Road Firewise site planned to include about 200 homes—and invited residents to volunteer at Lagunitasroadross@gmail.com. The mayor also thanked residents and staff for participation in the lengthy January 8 council meeting on the Ross Fire Station, urging people who missed the hearing to review presentations and recordings.
