"What we could do is we could — and I use 'deputize' in quotes — deputize someone either constables, myself ... to issue tickets in Jamaica. And then we would have to go through a court, a training ... so that if we have to go to court we know how to go through that process," the Clerk/Administrator reported, summarizing the sheriff's suggestions. Board members agreed to examine ordinances from other towns and to consider drafting town language for deputization and ticket forms.
The Clerk said she will review ordinances from neighboring towns, consult with the sheriff’s office about specific language, and return with options for the Board to consider. The Board did not take an immediate vote but instructed staff to research language and training options.
