The Select Board adopted a resolution urging Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and state officials to take steps to preserve the hospital’s regional birthing services.
The Chair read a resolution noting the region’s reliance on accessible birthing services and called for the town to signal support: "The Town of Jamaica Select Board strongly recommends that the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital do everything within its power to maintain robust birthing center services in Brattleboro for the region," the Chair read. The resolution also encouraged the Vermont Agency of Human Services, the governor's office, the Green Mountain Care Board and the state legislative delegation to support rural maternal care.
Board members agreed the resolution was appropriate as a show of support; the Chair moved to adopt and the Board voted in favor. The resolution will be signed by the Board and forwarded to the named state entities and the hospital as a formal expression of the town’s position.
