Avon approves $114,412 CT Recreational Trails grant for Farmington Canal Heritage Trail improvements

The Town Council voted Sept. 5 to accept a $114,412 Connecticut Recreational Trails grant for upgrades along the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. The grant will fund a cedar pavilion, a water fountain with a bottle filler at the Sperry Park trailhead, safety lighting at the Route 44 underpass, replacement of a stone-dust running path adjacent to the trail and updated signage.
On a unanimous vote, Council authorized Town Manager Brandon Robertson to execute the grant contract and any related documents. The resolution notes the grant will improve trail safety and amenities and directs the Town Manager to complete required grant paperwork and execute agreements on the Town’s behalf.
