City, county staff outline programs and funding to address affordable housing

"We offer a down payment assistance program... foreclosures prevention program... developer assistance... conduit debt financing and property tax abatement," County community development director Jonathan Butler said, then highlighted the county’s role as a co‑developer on a planned 159‑unit affordable project at the Nuvia Sekiya property. On the city side, affordable housing director Faviola Chavez said the City of Santa Fe maintains an Affordable Housing Trust Fund with "about $3,000,000 each year" in general‑fund appropriations and receives roughly "$600,000 from the Community Development Block Grant from HUD." Chavez described inclusionary zoning and a 15% fee‑in‑lieu or unit production requirement for multifamily developments entering the city.
Both managers recommended starting collaboration with achievable, staff‑driven initiatives and producing a short list of priority tasks that could yield quick wins. Staff suggested producing a landscape analysis to connect homelessness services and housing‑production strategies, and the governing bodies directed staff to provide briefs to the new working groups.
