The proposed downtown archway is moving toward an RFP phase, but staff said the agency needs completed architect drawings before soliciting bids for construction.
"This project's gonna be $500,000," Ashley told members while reporting on the archway conceptual drawings and a courtesy review from Deschutes County. County reviewers asked for more electrical details; Ashley said she visited the site with an electrician who identified a 220-amp service that would likely be adequate for the installation and that the county indicated the project could be permitted if full design details are submitted.
Ashley said she has requested complete conceptual drawings and technical specifications from the architecture firm and will follow up if she does not receive them within a week. Once the agency has those materials, staff will draft an RFP for construction and determine whether the architect should provide construction management or whether the city can manage the project in-house depending on the complexity of the final design.
Members took the electrical and permitting news as a positive step but did not make a final decision; Ashley said she expects to have more information for the agency's regular August meeting.
