Parent tells board her kindergartner faced repeated threats and assaults at Highlands Elementary

Alexis Wright, parent of a kindergarten student at Highlands Elementary, told the board that her child, Charlie Wright, experienced multiple violent incidents and threats while at school in late April. Wright said that on April 23 a student "attempted to kick her in the face," and on April 24 the same student allegedly choked Charlie, hit her in the face and threatened to shoot her; a different student then made additional threats referencing shooting and killing Charlie in the classroom.
"My daughter deserves to feel safe in her classroom. Right now, she does not," Wright told trustees. She said the family visited the school and escalated the matter to the director of student services; the principal later assured the family the situation would be resolved. Wright said the student returned and immediately attempted further attacks, and she pressed the board for "immediate, concrete action and not just reassurance, but actual results."
Trustees and administration did not record a public action during the comment period; the transcript shows staff said district administration would contact families and campus leadership afterward. Wright asked what accountability exists within the schools when a student repeatedly threatens others, and whether the district will take steps to keep her child safe every day.
