District reports drop in 3rd-grade students not meeting cut score under literacy act

In his superintendent’s report, Mr. Willis highlighted early data related to the 3rd Grade Literacy Act showing measurable improvement in proficiency counts.
"Last year, there were 78 kids who did not make that cut score... This year, that number was literally cut in 0.5 to 39 kids, and, that's 7 percent," Mr. Willis said, describing the reduction as significant and crediting coordinated K–3 efforts. He said the district is continuing to examine cohort data and noted that improvements reflect work spanning kindergarten through third grade.
Board members welcomed the progress and the superintendent cautioned that full-year scores and more detailed cohort analyses will provide additional context once all results are in.
