VanHoudt also questioned police overtime, stating more than $11,000 had already been spent this year. Council and staff explained that the police chief is salaried and exempt from overtime, while most other officers are hourly and receive overtime only after 173.33 hours per month; overtime also covers training, court time, and coverage gaps.
