The Avon Town Council authorized the Town Manager to execute a two‑year contract with American Medical Response of Connecticut (AMR) to provide ambulance services for Avon, covering July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026, with an option for an additional year. Chief of Police Paul Melanson said AMR is the Town’s ambulance provider and that response time compliance has been 90% or higher over the past year.
Melanson noted that roughly 30% of medical calls originate at assisted‑care facilities and that the Town coordinates with AMR and medical oversight (Dr. Kamin at UConn Health Center) to triage calls so the Town’s dedicated ambulance is available for true emergencies. "We are pleased with the addition of the shared ambulance to increase response times," Melanson said. Council approved the contract extension unanimously.
