Mayor proclaims 7 Days of Kindness and Fair Housing Month; council hears regional planning update

The Overland Park mayor issued proclamations recognizing '7 Days of Kindness' (April 20–28) and Fair Housing Month (April 2026). Representatives from the 7 Days organization and a youth leadership member spoke briefly to thank the council and encourage civic participation.
During the mayor’s report the Citizens Advisory Council for the CDBG highlighted HUD funding and prior allocations to housing efforts; CAC representatives noted Overland Park has received over $7.2 million from HUD in the prior decade and the city recently received a $747,489 award for 2026.
Later in the meeting the council received a report from the Mid America Regional Council on regional solid waste management planning, a regional air quality education campaign, and preparations for the 2026 World Cup that will require coordination on transportation and safety across jurisdictions.
