Facilities staff told the board they continue to work on HVAC and grounds issues as the district approaches opening day.
"We have right at 5,000 units in the district, 5,050 units," the facilities presenter said, adding that 1,156 units were previously flagged and that number has been reduced to about 850 still under question. Staff said they are using contractors and in-house crews, expect significant reductions by the end of the week, and have about 280–300 portable air-conditioning units available if needed. Grounds work has been subcontracted at about 20 campuses and is underway at others; pine-straw installation was reported nearly complete at priority sites.
Board members asked whether outstanding HVAC repairs would be finished before the first day of school; staff said they cannot promise every unit will be fixed but are deploying portable units and working overtime to address critical locations.
