Committee fast-tracks Ascot redevelopment tweaks, suspends rules to expedite approval

Planning staff described a companion ordinance to earlier zoning changes for the Ascot Industrial Park that streamlines the review process by removing duplicate planning commission and urban design/historic preservation reviews for exterior design and landscaping while preserving other conditional-use review requirements.
"Both planning staff and planning commission recommend approval of the text changes as proposed," Jim said. Councilperson Fran Wilson, whose district includes the Ascot area, asked a clarifying question and was told the primary change removes one of two commission reviews and saves businesses about six weeks of review time. A committee member moved to suspend the rules and give a favorable report; the motion passed by voice vote so the item could proceed before legislative recess.
