Village manager calls Vernon Hills Days a success after air‑quality disruption

The manager told trustees the committee of volunteers (chaired by Brandon Atkins) works year‑round and that the village will begin planning for 2027. He said organizers had to cancel the July 16 festivities "due to the poor air quality," and that staff are considering a new special‑event insurance policy to cover weather and air‑quality incidents. The village manager said staff will return to the board during insurance‑renewal season this fall with proposed renewals and a recommended policy to protect large outdoor events.
Board members praised volunteers and staff for handling the disruption. Trustee Forster singled out the village manager for crisis coordination, noting he "was in constant contact" during the air‑quality pivot. The board agreed to plan for next year and said feedback on the new festival layout has been positive.
