Resident urges evacuation audit and construction pause for Pines of Grass Valley project

Mary Anne Jeffrey, who identified herself as a Grass Valley resident, told the council she first learned about construction of the Pines of Grass Valley when she heard a bulldozer and saw a tree come down.
"Immediately adjacent to the pines on the east are the Summit Senior Living and Gold Country Village Apartments," she said, listing other multiunit buildings and estimating that hundreds of households could be funneled onto a two-lane street during an evacuation. She asked the city for a wildfire-evacuation analysis and an emergency-access audit for the East Bennett and Colfax Highway corridors, including Gold Hill, and requested a temporary stay of construction until the audit is completed or an easily accessible link to an existing analysis is posted.
Jeffrey said she called engineering and planning the day of the meeting and left a message but had not yet obtained a clear response; she asked council and staff to provide more public information. "If this audit has already been done, I request that it be made public by an easily accessible link," she said. The council did not take immediate action on the request at Monday's meeting.
