2026 community survey: Overland Park rates very highly; streets, congestion and public safety top priorities

ETC Institute presented results of the 2026 community survey (1,159 responses, ±2.9% margin). Residents gave unusually high ratings to Overland Park overall; the top priorities that rose from the data were maintenance of city streets, traffic flow/congestion and public safety.
Jason Morado, director of community research at ETC Institute, told the Committee of the Whole that ETC received 1,159 completed surveys for Overland Park and that "the survey results at the 95% level of confidence have a margin of error plus or minus 2.9%." Morado said residents gave the city unusually high marks: 97% rate Overland Park as an "excellent or good place to live," and the city scored above the national average across most service categories.
Morado walked the committee through the methodology and the top findings, noting that 79 of 98 measured areas improved since 2024 with 37 areas showing increases of 3 percentage points or more. He said the highest priorities identified by residents were maintenance of city streets, traffic flow and public safety. Morado also showed ward‑level maps demonstrating uniformly high ratings across all six wards and said the full KC Metro comparisons and peer‑city breakdowns are included in the full report. The presentation and full report will be posted on the city's website, staff said.
