Boyle County Magistrates approved a motion on July 28 to purchase 42 acres and associated buildings at 820 Hoek Hollow Road (referred to as the Elizabeth Estes property) in Junction City for the appraised price of $350,000.
Magistrate Cohen moved the purchase and the court authorized Judge Trillie L. Bottom to approach the city of Danville to request a 50/50 split of the purchase price; the motion included a target closing date of Aug. 23, 2026. Supporters said the parcel adjoins trail access and could expand recreational and economic opportunities. "It would be a great economic addition to this... a very fine piece of property, with a dwelling on it, large barn for storage," a magistrate said during discussion. The motion passed by voice vote.
The county will proceed with steps necessary for purchase and will coordinate with the city about cost-sharing; details on funding sources and closing logistics will be addressed by the finance committee and at a special finance meeting to follow the court session.
