Local volunteers laid 23 wreaths at Avon Center Cemetery during Wreaths Across America ceremony

At the Jan. 14 meeting, Commissioner Theresa Szippl provided an account of the Dec. 13, 2025 Wreaths Across America event at Avon Center Cemetery. According to her recap, 23 wreaths were laid across the cemetery and eight wreaths were placed at the military monument to honor the branches of the military. Participants included members of the Avon Historical Society, commission members, Councilwoman‑at‑Large Mary Berges, John Callahan and Commander Kerry Barvincak of Avon VFW Post 735.
Szippl said the event combined solemn remembrance with community participation and that, due to severe winds and nearby construction, she and her husband removed the eight wreaths from the monument for safekeeping; the wreath stands are stored at the Avon Old Town Hall with the Historical Society. The commission publicly thanked volunteers involved in the ceremony and documented photographs taken by Szippl for the historical record.
