The Lewistown City Commission approved Resolution No. 4209 on Sept. 15, authorizing Homeword to submit a Montana Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to rehabilitate Ouellette Place, a 24‑unit affordable property at 405–511 St. Joseph Drive that serves households at or below 60% of area median income.
Erin Ojala of Homeword, attending virtually, told the commission that moisture issues at Ouellette Place are causing significant damage and could become health and safety hazards if not addressed. “We’re hoping to apply for $380,000 in funding,” Ojala said, and Homeword plans to combine replacement and owner funds as a match. City Manager Holly Phelps clarified that the City will act as sponsor but will not be financially responsible for the project.
Commissioners expressed support for preserving affordable housing in Lewistown; Commissioner Terry said she has worked with Homeword and “supports Homeword 100%.” With no public objections during the hearing, the commission called the question and voted in favor of the resolution.
