Boyne City schools launch Portrait of a Graduate process with Michigan Virtual consultant

Lisa Sitkin, a consultant with LSS Connections and Consulting who said she still contracts with Michigan Virtual, told the Boyne City Public Schools board that a Portrait of a Graduate defines the attributes and skills students should possess on graduation and is intended to be embedded across pre‑K–12 curricula rather than added on. "Portrait or graduate are the attributes and skills that students should possess upon graduating from high school," Sitkin said, describing how the work informs curriculum, strategic planning and resource allocation.
Sitkin described the planned process: a design team will run internal ideation in a June work session, the district will run a community survey intended to close by June 6, and stakeholder work sessions (including a half‑day retreat in August) will narrow draft competencies to five or six items for refinement and final board consideration. She recommended wide outreach—newsletters, focus groups, booster clubs, chamber partnerships and in‑person events—to capture student, parent, staff and business perspectives. Board members said they appreciated the linkage between the portrait work and the strategic plan and asked Sitkin to support continuity as the board moves to finalize both documents.
