Southwest Dallas AFT member urges Cedar Hill ISD board to approve 5% raise for teachers

Snowden said that workload pressures, lack of planning time and repeated class coverage are driving attrition. “Teachers deserve a living wage, not a survival wage,” she said, and asked the board for a 5% salary increase and “a comprehensive anti-bullying workplace policy” that includes explicit protections for employees who report bullying. She also alleged that some campuses are not providing the 450 minutes of planning time required by the Texas Education Code and said approximately 20% of teachers reported not getting their planning time in the union's regional survey.
The board did not take action during the meeting; the request was presented during the public-comment period and will be part of broader compensation conversations already on the agenda.
