Halifax appoints Crystal Kingsley to fill vacant elementary school committee seat

The Halifax Board of Selectmen, joined by the Halifax Elementary School Committee and Finance Committee, appointed Crystal Kingsley to a vacant seat on the Halifax Elementary School Committee Tuesday evening following interviews of four talent‑bank applicants.

Candidates Samantha Cox, James Hopkins, Crystal Kingsley and Derek Wigman each gave brief introductions and answered questions about their strengths, community ties and willingness to serve. After a nomination from a school committee member and a second, the assembled boards voted to appoint Kingsley. Chair (speaker 1) said, "Congratulations to Crystal," and directed her to the town clerk to complete certification and be sworn in.

Panel members asked applicants about collaboration, handling public criticism and continuity if appointed midterm. Applicants emphasized teamwork, transparency and availability, with several noting the option to zoom in for meetings if needed. The appointee will fill the seat through the committee's stated term schedule; the chair noted Kingsley should meet the town clerk for certification and will receive her appointment card promptly.

The appointment was made during a joint meeting that also included a separate presentation by the Silver Lake district superintendent and other routine municipal business. The board did not record a roll‑call breakdown in the minutes beyond the motion, second and unanimous assent among voting members present.

The next regular Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for Aug. 11; Kingsley is expected to be sworn in by the town clerk before participating in committee business.
