Council declines to recommend citizen skateboard-park petition, votes 4–2 to record 'not recommended'

The Bedford Town Council on Jan. 21 considered a citizen-petitioned warrant (Article 11) proposing a skateboard park. An initial motion to recommend the article failed on a 2–4 roll call. The council then moved and passed a motion to record that it does not recommend the article, voting 4–2 to register a 'not recommend' tally for the ballot.
Members debated how recommendations appear on the ballot and whether the Council should use consistent language for all warrant items. Resident Ron Carvell addressed the council and said that vote tallies should be printed in a consistent 'Recommended by the Council X–Y' format and that the voter guide could clarify positions. Ultimately the council’s official action will place the skateboard-park petition on the ballot marked as not recommended by a 4–2 tally.
