Board approves final plat for Lois Wiegand subdivision in northeast Des Moines County

The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors on July 28 approved Resolution 2026-046 certifying the final plat for the Lois Wiegand subdivision in the northeast part of the county.
Jared Laster, regional planner, told the board the proposal splits a roughly 200-acre farm tract into two approximately 100-acre tracts and retains a one-acre Lot 3 in the middle that contains the center-pivot irrigation system, a grain bin and a barn. “So, basically, this is a fairly large area here. We're actually dealing with a 200 acre farm tract up in the Northeast part of the county,” Laster said. He told supervisors an easement will provide access to the landlocked parcel and that the electric cooperative requested an underground-electric easement be shown on the plat; staff worked with the surveyor to include the change.
Chair (S1) called for a motion; the board moved, seconded and voted to approve the resolution for recording. The board’s roll call recorded affirmative responses for the named supervisors and the resolution will be recorded in county land records per Iowa Code Sec. 354.8 as cited in the meeting. The county auditor, health department, secondary roads and land use department had reviewed the plat and recommended approval.
The board did not add conditions beyond the recorded easement notation; Jared Laster recommended approval and no further substantive objections were raised during discussion. The vote outcome was recorded as approved.
