Legislative delegation adopts three resolutions honoring hibakusha; peace ceremony set for Aug. 6, 2026

Chair Maggie opened the delegation’s special session on July 29 and formally introduced three delegation resolutions recognizing Fumiaki Kajiya, Keijiro Matsushima and Kiyoshi Nishida for “their lifelong dedication to peace and education,” each presented as a dedication or resolution (24-05, 24-06 and 24-07). Floor leader Sunilas moved to adopt the resolutions and each motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Chair Maggie provided historical context for the honors, saying, “They are called the, the Hibakusha…they’re survivors of the atomic bombs…08/06/1945,” and noted previous commemorations, including a ceremony held on Aug. 6, 2005. She said a formal invitation will be issued on behalf of Mayor Edwin Piodon and that the Tinian Municipal Council and legislative delegation will arrange a peace ceremony on the island of Tinian on Aug. 6, 2026. The delegation adopted resolution number 24-07 to support that recognition.
The adopted resolutions are ceremonial honors placed on the delegation calendar; no other policy or funding actions were recorded in connection with the resolutions. The delegation recorded the adoptions by voice vote during the special session.
