The Zoning Committee approved a Special Permit for a new eating and drinking establishment at 300 Carew Street, under §275‑58(C)(4). Applicant Enid V. Coleman told the committee she is purchasing the Atlas Pub and said she has 31 years of management experience and has been training at the location; she is TIP certified. Planning recommended approval and noted that the property is zoned Business A and historically permitted for similar uses. The Fire Department asked that square footage be recalculated in light of potential re‑configuration.
Councilor Samuel Shumsky moved and Councilor George Balakier seconded motions to close public input and to approve the permit; the motions passed. Planning recommended approval with deferral to Public Health and Public Safety for any outstanding operational or health requirements. The permit was approved “to run with the applicant,” meaning the Special Permit accompanies the operator as proposed.
