Council member Hoover formally requested that planning and zoning public notices be posted to the city’s Facebook page so that residents citywide can see pending rezoning or variance requests even when they are not formally adjacent-property notices. “I think a more public notice to anybody that lives in the city is appropriate, because even if they're opposed or for it, at least they have the knowledge of what's happening in our city,” Hoover said.
Law Director Costa Mastros said he had no legal objection to additional online postings but emphasized they would not substitute for formal legal notice required by ordinance. He advised distinguishing between transparency postings and formal notice. Council asked staff to accommodate broader transparency where possible.
