During the meeting the board set aside time to recognize several students and staff. The Fine Arts Director presented a Gold Key Award to Felix Mendez of Sierra High School and announced several Texas Theater Scholar Award recipients whose works will be submitted for statewide exhibition.
The board also recognized procurement staff: Patricio Valdez Contreras, Cedar Hill purchasing manager, received an award of merit from a state purchasing committee (the presenter said just 84 districts qualified in 2026). "Congratulations to the Cedar Hill purchasing manager," a district presenter said, noting this highlighted the business office’s compliance with procurement rules.
Transportation staff were acknowledged as well: the district named Willie Bradford PCAT Bus Driver of the Year and presented a certificate and small recognition. Bradford said he was surprised and thanked colleagues who supported him at the district.
These recognitions were presented as ceremonial items early in the meeting; no related policy or budget action was taken during the awards presentations.
