Commission approves Transportation Investment Act application to resurface 36 roads totaling 52 miles

Public works staff presented a Transportation Investment Act local delivery application to allow Lowndes County staff to manage resurfacing work locally.
"This project does include resurfacing a total of 36 roads at 52 total miles," Mister McLeod told commissioners, and he said the work will be let in three separate projects over three years. Staff estimated the combined cost at a little over $13,000,000.
A commissioner asked whether the project included rumble shoulders or strips; Mister McLeod replied the work is pavement widening and restripping with shoulder rebuilding. The commission voted to authorize submission of the application and to allow the chairman to sign required documents so the county may proceed with local project delivery under the TIA process.
Staff said the project will be phased as part of band 1 work and that additional band 2 and band 3 work will follow in future cycles.
