Planning staff recommended the chair sign a transmittal letter to send the 2026 comprehensive plan draft to the regional commission and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for review.
"A draft of the 2026 comprehensive plan has been prepared and is ready to be sent for review," Mister Dillard told the commission at the start of the public hearing. He said the draft was produced with input from local elected officials, stakeholders and community meetings, and that copies are available on the county and regional commission websites.
During the public hearing resident John Boardman praised staff for placing the draft on the county website so residents could review it without filing an open‑records request. The chair then asked for a motion; the commission voted to transmit the plan for regional and state review and invited residents to submit written comments to staff during the review period.
The transmittal begins the formal review by the regional commission and the Department of Community Affairs; staff described the upcoming opportunity for local cities and elected leaders to review and request edits to ensure municipal needs are addressed before final adoption.
