Kingsford council approves permit for fiber conduit to Iron Mountain Public Schools

Kingsford City Council approved a permit request from L&H Utility Contractors Inc., with Van Ert Electric, to install conduit and fiber along the east side of North Balsam Street from the Willis Center to the north side of Woodward Avenue, a distance of about 700 feet, to serve Iron Mountain Public Schools.
City Manager Michael Stelmaszek said he reviewed the request with DPW Superintendent Jeff DeMuri and Zoning Administrator Kyle Mulka, who indicated the crews must remain within the public right-of-way. Council Member Angela Olson moved to approve the permit; Michael Flaminio seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
The authorization allows the school district connectivity work to proceed in the near term; the contractors requested to start within weeks of the meeting, and staff will monitor right-of-way compliance.
