Frenship ISD celebrates more than 40 UIL state medalists across choir, band and orchestra

Frenship ISD trustees opened their meeting by recognizing a large group of students who medaled at the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble contest, highlighting both individual and ensemble successes across choir, band and orchestra. Friendship High School choir leaders and students reported 24 solo gold medals, four silvers and three bronze ensembles; band and orchestra medalists from Friendship and Memorial High Schools were also acknowledged.
"They had the best attitudes the entire trip," said Ryan Smith, the Friendship Fine Arts director, praising students’ professionalism and preparation. Several individual students introduced themselves and their awards: "I was a bronze medalist in ensemble, a gold medalist in solo, and an outstanding performer for solo," said Joseph Cena. The board asked staff and directors to share certificates and to take group photos. The recognitions served as a public acknowledgment of the district’s fine arts programs and student achievement; there was no board action required.
