Founder of Rahma Recovery Center pitches Recovery Cafe and asks city to partner with space

Hussein Ugats, founder and executive director of Rahma Recovery Center, used his three minutes of public comment to describe a Recovery Cafe model that offers peer support, recovery navigation and help transitioning people from treatment or incarceration into stable housing and employment. Ugats said his organization has secured accreditation and is already operating sober homes nearby, and that the Recovery Cafe would be a community hub rather than a treatment center.
“Recovery Cafe…it's a space that offers hope, rebuilding people's lives, getting individuals off the streets and into recovery,” Ugats said, and asked the city to consider partnering by allowing use of city‑owned spaces. Chair Linda Kochermar suggested Ugats email the mayor and invited him to present at the full council meeting on Aug. 11 for broader exposure.
