Crowley ISD celebrates district Battle of the Books winners; 315 students competed

Crowley ISD trustees and staff recognized the winners of this year’s district-wide Battle of the Books during the board’s regular meeting. Janet Kogenauer, the district’s coordinator of library services, told the board the program spans 3rd through 8th grades and this year’s district competition included 21 schools and 315 students competing at Tarleton State University on Feb. 24–25.
Kogenauer said the contest depends on a wide team of staff and volunteers, thanking specialists, judges, campus administrators, aides, teachers, maintenance and transportation staff. She introduced the winning teams by grade and named facilitators and students, including the 3rd-grade winners from Jackie Carden Elementary and the 8th-grade team from Summer Creek Middle School, which won with a perfect score. "Battle of the Books has been a reading and literacy tradition in Crowley ISD for 10 years now," Kogenauer said.
