Planning commission recommends approval of Taco Bell sign and architectural amendment

The Saratoga Springs Planning Commission on July 30 voted to forward a recommendation of approval for a major site plan amendment to the Taco Bell at 27 West Crossroads Boulevard to add a purple accent stripe and update signage.
Planner Caden Baines summarized the amendment and showed elevations: the proposed accent stripe will appear on the south, east and west facades and will cover approximately 0.5% on the west, 0.667% on the south and 1% on the east facade. Baines said accent colors are not counted toward the 10% color‑coverage limit used for architectural standards, and staff found the amendment complies with site plan and architectural requirements.
No applicant representative attended the meeting; Baines answered commissioners' questions about facade coverage and code classification for accent colors. "The way we classify accent colors when it comes to architectural standards is that they have to be less than 10% of the building ... and those colors aren't counted in the architectural standards for the number and coverage of colors," Baines said.
Commissioner Wheldon moved to forward the recommendation for approval with the findings and conditions in the staff report; Commissioner Harris seconded. The commission voted and the recommendation passed unanimously.
Next steps: the recommendation will go to city council for final action consistent with the staff report.
