Commissioner Strickland opened the committee’s announcements with reports from a recent Bureau of Land Management meeting, saying BLM has posts and wire in Ely available to support repairs to the Roadrunner Road range fence and that seven cattleguards are available in Ely.
Strickland also told the committee that a Jan. 29 public meeting hosted by an organization called The Wilds drew about 50 attendees to discuss wild horse and burro deaths on SR-160; he said County Commissioners and Fire Chief Lewis were among those present. He added that the Basin shooting range carries a $500,000 budget and that a Nye County Lands Bill is expected to be reintroduced to Congress. The committee heard these announcements as background for later agenda items about fence repairs and wildlife collision reduction.
