Community groups plan Fourth of July hamburger fry; VFW outreach event cleared

At the June 23 meeting JR Thompson asked to reserve the grassy area south of the Rocky Ford swimming pool for a free community hamburger fry on July 4, saying the event would be sponsored by the Daily Gazette and Rocky Ford Discount Tire. City staff advised that the location can be reserved through the city’s park-permit process.
Separately, the council’s consent agenda included approval of VFW Post 336’s fermented malt beverage permit for the 2nd Annual Veterans Outreach Event at the Arkansas Valley Fairgrounds on July 11, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; that item was approved as part of the consent agenda by a unanimous vote.
Staff indicated the park-permit application process is the route for reserving municipal park property; no final park permit was issued during the meeting and applicants were directed to submit the standard paperwork.
