Officials say Putnam County's 911 backup at sheriff's office is operational but limited

Commissioner James Oster told the committee a small transfer (26T046) will be used to upgrade or replace broken equipment at the backup 911 center located at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. He said the transfer is under $5,000 and that the purchases are intended to reinvigorate the backup center for alternative interim uses.
Oster said the Sheriff’s backup center is capable of performing the same functions as the primary 911 center but does not have the capacity to handle the current number of dispatchers on duty; in an outage, dispatchers from the 911 center would relocate to the Sheriff's Office. The backup center is checked monthly to ensure operational readiness. Chairman Regan declined to discuss detailed backup plans outside executive session when asked by Legislator Crowley.
