Pharmacy spend dominated by anti‑obesity drugs; biosimilars transition set for Jan. 1, 2026

Capital Rx reported plan pay by drug classification at roughly $1 million Generic, $12 million Brand and $10 million Specialty.
The top drug classes by plan spend included Anti‑Obesity Agents ($4.3M) and Incretin Mimetic Agents ($2.5M). Capital Rx provided a weight‑loss drug opportunity analysis showing 1,515 unique utilizers with 3,788 claims and plan pay of $4,311,216; the top two drugs by plan spend listed were Zepbound ($2.2M) and Wegovy ($2.0M). Capital Rx also reported a move to biosimilars effective Jan. 1, 2026, advising that members were notified in October and that prior authorizations will not need to be reissued for the transition.
