Planning staff to demonstrate new digital shoreland map after Monday subgroup meeting

The planning board was told the project to digitize the town's shoreland and zoning maps has reached a point where a demonstration can be shown to members. Board staff said the KBCOG mapping includes layered views for resource-protection categories such as slopes and vernal pools and that staff and a small subgroup will meet Monday from 10 a.m. to noon to review the work and prepare a demonstration for the full board.
Staff explained the mapping allows members to toggle layers (e.g., slope, habitat, vernal pools) and will help the board evaluate shoreland permitting and future ordinance changes. The Chair asked that the subgroup's findings be shared back at the next public meeting; staff said Mark will attend the subgroup and that the digitized maps will make it easier to evaluate setbacks, impervious allowances and potential notice requirements for projects that have regional impacts.
